Description
This Navy Board model (scale 1:48) represents a ship of the very early years of the reign of Queen Anne (vide A R monogram), before the 1703 Admiralty order to restrict decorative carved work on naval vesels. The dimensions are very similar to the 'Dunkirk' (1704) and the 'Dreadnought' (1691), both built by Johnson at Blackwall, London. Of particular interest is the completely unaltered style of Stuart decoration which was succeeded by the totally different Georgian style 15 years after the Admiralty order. The rigging is original.
