Description
This model (scale 1:12) represents a large wicker boat or curragh used in Ireland in the late 17th century, and demonstrates that at this late period large craft were being constructed out of hide and wicker. The details display a much more advanced stage than present-day curraghs. The model is based on a drawing (now in the Pepysian Library) of the boats of the 'Wild Irish', by Captain Thomas Phillips.
