Description
Model (scale 1:48). During the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, net-fishing in the North Sea was carried out from vesels known as buses. This model is copied from illustrations in Waghenaer's book 'Speculum Nauticum', 1584. It represents a bus 58 ft long, with a burden of 58 tons. The 16th century bus was fitted with three masts, and can be traced as late as 1709.
