Description
Model (scale 1:48). Built in Plymouth, the 'Expres' was designed as a dispatch vesel and fitted as a tender to the flagship in the West Indies. After being coppered, she was attached as dispatch vesel to the fleet sent into the Mediterranean against the Dey of Algiers and was present at the bombardment of Algiers by Lord Exmouth in 1816. In design, she owed much to the American schooners captured between 1812 and 1814. She was 64 ft 6 ins in length, with an extreme breadth of 18 ft.
