Description
Photograph of 'Wylam Dilly' taken in 1862. This locomotive, with its sister locomotive 'Puffing Billy', is the earliest surviving locomotive in the world. Wylam Dilly was built by William Hedley in 1813 for use at Wylam Colliery near Newcastle. The two locomotives were photographed in 1862, when they were finally taken out of service. Wylam Dilly is on display at the Royal Scottish Museum, Edinburgh. End view.
