Description
The locomotive represented by this model (scale 1:8) was built by Robert Stephenson & Co in 1825. In September 1825, it hauled the special train which opened the Stockton and Darlington Railway, the world's first public steam railway. After the opening she was used to haul freight wagons and a pasenger carriage called the 'Experiment'. The model was made by T A Common, who presented it to the Science Museum in 1936.
