Description
Model (scale 1:64). The 'Vanguard' was the largest warship ever built in Britain and the last battleship to serve in the Royal Navy. She was 814.3 ft long, with a displacement of 44,500 tons, a crew of 1900, and was protected by armour 16 inches thick in parts. She was armed with eight 15-inch guns, 16 5.25-inch guns, 60 40-mm anti-aircraft guns and four 3-pounder guns for saluting purposes. The 15-inch guns were originally on the battlecruisers 'Courageous' and 'Glorious'. Although launched in November, 1944, HMS 'Vanguard' did not see action in World War II. She was broken up in 1960.
