Description
Model. The construction of large warships in wood was discontinued after the advent of seagoing iron-built armoured vesels but timber was still used until about 1870 for many small corvettes and sloops. The 6-gun sloop 'Eclipse' was 212 ft long, with a displacement of 1698 tons. She was armed with two 7-inch muzzle-loading, rifled guns, mounted amidships, with two 64-pdr guns carried on each broadside.
