Description
Oil painting by F Moore. The smaller of the two locomotives is GNR 4-2-2 locomotive No 1, designed by Sir Patrick Stirling and built in 1870. The larger locomotive on the left of the picture is the 'Sir Frederick Banbury', 4-6-2 locomotive No 1471of the Pacific clas, designed by Sir Nigel Gresley. F Moore was the collective name of a studio of artists operating in the first two decades of the 20th century. They produced many paintings and painted photographs of steam locomotives, prior to the advent of colour photography.
