Description
Oil on canvas painting by Nathaniel Dance. Thomas Mudge (1717-1794) started a clockmaking busines in Fleet Street, London in 1751, and became one of England's most eminent makers. He invented the lever escapement, used to regulate the movement in spring-driven watches in c 1757, and was appointed watchmaker to King George III in 1776. Dimensions: 755mm x 635mm.
