Description
Metro' gas cooker no 370750, c 1920. This was designed for the South Metropolitan Gas Co in London and shows the special feature of early 1920s cookers - the use of enamelled iron sheets to make it easy to clean. These sheets are only used to line the oven and on the backplate, whereas by 1922 they were used on the front and sides as well. The oven has a top flue and only the door is lagged. The hoplate has an elaborate grill with two burners and taps, and two boiling rings. Intended for hiring out to new consumers, between 1920 and 1925. Front view.
