Description
This sheet iron cooker was designed by James Sharp (1790-1870), a pioneer of domestic gas cooking technology. He first demonstrated cooking by gas in 1837. Manufactured by William Lankester & Son of Southampton, this was one of the first gas cookers ever sold and was designed primarily for roasting. The non-aerated burner is at the bottom of the oven and separate inner sheets are clipped to the walls for ease of cleaning and to let air circulate and cool the cooker. Front view.
