Description
Photographs showing succesive phases of movement of an athlete at the Olympic Games, Paris, 1900. Taken by Etienne-Jules Marey (1830-1904) on moving film with his latest-type chronophotographic camera, constructed about 1896. Marey was a French physiologist who pioneered the use of photography to record and analyse movement.
