Description
Clerk (1854-1932) conducted research on the theory and design of gas engines. In 1881, he invented the two-stroke internal combustion engine, known as the Clerk cycle. He became a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1908 and was awarded the Royal Medal in 1924.
