This telephone belongs to the 700 series produced by the British Post Office. This series was an updated version of the earlier 300 series with an improved transmision circuit and a new handset. Then, in 1959 a new plastic case was produced and the improved design became known as the 706 or 'Modern' Telephone. The 706 was available in a variety of colours including black, grey, green, yellow, red and blue as well as the ivory shown, giving the consumer more choice. Photographed with plastic case removed.
