McFarlane calculating cylinder, 19th century.

Richardson, Claire

McFarlane calculating cylinder, 19th century.
3 4 c m
actual image size: 32cm x 26cm

A cylindrical form of slide rule made by McFarlane. Cylindrical slide rules, like circular versions of the instrument, were designed to get greater scale length than would be practical with a conventional slide rule. This enabled calculations to be made with greater accuracy than with a standard slide rule.
