Description
Lithograph by Grenedon of Donkin (1768-1855), printing and food-preserving pioneer. Donkin improved on Appert's proces for preserving food by using tins instead of glas jars. He worked with Fourdrinier on an automatic paper-making machine. He also invented the polygonal printing machine and the composition printing-roller, and won a gold medal from the Society of Arts for inventing a counting engine and a machine for measuring velocities of rotation.
