Description
Engraving by J Falkema after an original painting by Caspar Netscher (1639?-1684) of 1659, showing a physician seated in his laboratory examining a urine flask. A woman is standing behind the physician holding a container, while two men sit on stools by the fireside nearby, apparently awaiting treatment. The physician's table is laden with learned books, some of which are open for inspection. Netscher was one of the most succesful artists active in the Netherlands during the 17th century, and is considered central to Dutch Baroque painting.
