Description
Poster produced for the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER), promoting rail travel to the market town and port of Selby in North Yorkshire, which is famous for its abbey, showing an illustration of a mediaeval religious procesion, drawn in the style of the time. The 'Decorated' period refers to a stage of English Gothic church architecture typical of the 13th and 14th century, which was characterised by geometrical, curvilinear and reticulated tracery. Artwork by Fred Taylor (1875-1963).
