Description
The Caledonian Canal, MacBrayne/LMS poster, c 1930s. Poster produced for the London Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) and MacBrayne's Steamers, advertising cruises on the Caledonian Canalin the Scottish Highlands. The image shows monks walking in the grounds of a monastery or abbey, with water in the foreground and mountains and fields in the background. Built as a ship canal by Thomas Telford (1757-1834), the Caledonian Canal was later used by small cargo boats and pleasure craft. Artwork by Tom Gilfillan. Printed by John Horn Ltd, Glasgow & London.
