Description
Poster produced for the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) to promote the Flying Scotsman non-stop service between King's Cros, London and Waverley, Edinburgh. The service covered a distance of 392 miles, with a change of driver and fireman mid-journey. Here, a view of the locomotive is shown, with a driver about to take over from his colleague. Artwork by Frank Newbould (1887-1951), who studied at Bradford College of Art and joined the War Office in 1942. He designed posters for the LNER (London & North Eastern Railway), GWR (Great Western Railway), Orient Line and Belgian Railways.
