A photograph of 16 year old Jill Butler, a clerk from Somerset, breaking up firewood as part of a girls' Outward Bound course in the Lake District. The 1954 course, run by the Outward Bound Centre in Eskdale, Cumbria, was only the second such course run for girls. This photograph has been selected from the Daily Herald Archive, a collection of over three million photographs. The archive holds work of international, national and local importance by both staff and agency photographers.
