Description
"At this time most wagons were built from wood although timber was soon to be replaced by steel. Newton Heath carriage works opened in 1877, producing and repairing carriages and wagons for the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway. Carriages and wagons were built here until 1932, despite the works having one of the largest outputs in Britain."
