Description
Two illustrations from the Report of the Children's Employment Commission, 1842. The top image shows a 'hurrier' pushing a loaded 'corve' along a low and narrow tunnel. The image below shows a woman turning a handle attached to a wheel, which is winding two cross-lapped children up a shaft. The report states that children as young as eight years old worked in the mines.
