A photograph of the American Vice President Richard Nixon (1913-1994), with his wife Patricia and the British Foreign Secretary Selwyn Lloyd, taken by Terry Fincher for the Daily Herald newspaper on 25 November, 1958. Nixon is pictured speaking to journalists at Victoria Station on a visit to Britain. Nixon's plane was unable to land at Heathrow Airport due to fog, so he had been diverted to Gatwick and travelled by train to Victoria. Nixon studied Law at Duke University, serving subsequently as a Navy Lieutenant Commander in the Pacific during World War Two. He was Vice President to General Eisenhower and, after losing to John F Kennedy in 1960, became President in 1969. His Presidency became troubled by the Watergate scandal in 1972 and, faced with impeachment, he resigned in 1974.
