Description
Wooden barrow with silver decorations, commemorating cutting the first sod of the West Lancashire Railway which was to run between Southport and Preston. The first sod was turned by Samuel Swire, mayor of Southport, on 19 April 1873. The contractors were Messrs Edwin Clark, Pritchard & Co.
