Description
Taken from page 18 of the notebook belonging to John Urpeth Rastrick (1780-1856) that was used to record details of the Rainhill locomotive trials in 1829. The Rainhill trials were a competition set up to find the most efficient locomotive for railway haulage on the Liverpool and Manchester Railway. The competition was won by the Rocket, designed by George Stephenson (1781-1848) and Robert Stephenson (1803-1859). Rastrick was one of the judges.
