'A smiling Paul Gascoigne takes delivery of his brand new personalised Rover car. Talks of a new contract, but Gazza steers clear of questions about his future at Newcastle'. Paul Gascoigne (born 1967) joined Newcastle United in 1983, and subsequently played for Tottenham Hotspur, the Italian side Lazio, Glasgow Rangers, Middlesbrough and Everton. A talented player, his career was held back by injuries for many years. In an emotional performance during the semi-final of the 1990 World Cup, he cried after being booked, as he knew he would have been suspended from playing in the final had England won the game. The same year he was named BBC Sports Personality of the Year. In 2003 he went to play for Gansu Tianma, a Chinese 2nd division team, before returning to Britain as player-coach for Boston United.
