Description
LNER steam locomotive 4-6-2 No 4472 'Flying Scotsman'. The Flying Scotsman was the first express passenger locomotive. It was built by the newly formed London & North Eastern Railway in 1923. It was designed by Sir Nigel Gresley. In 1934 the Flying Scotsman was the first steam locomotive to reach a speed of 100mph.
