Description
The "Planet" locomotive that ran on the Liverpool & Manchester Railway, by I Shaw, 13 March 1831. This engine was designed by Robert Stephenson & Company. This railway was one of the first to be opened in Britain. Railways were developed mainly for the transportation of goods, mainly coal, but it was quickly realised that trains were also a good way of carrying passengers.
