Virgin passenger train at Dawlish, Devon, by Chris Hogg, June 2000. This section of track runs along the sea front, and was often flooded when the tide was high in the winter. Virgin trains took over the operation of the British Rail cross country routes when the railways were privatised in the 1990s. They transport passengers from Scotland to London, the South Coast and the West Country.
