Description
Portrait of Gresley (1876-1941) who was the Chief Mechanical Engineer for the London & North Eastern Railway from 1923 to 1941, having gained experience at Crewe and Horwich works. He designed the Pacific locomotives, of which the record-breaking The Mallard was one. He also designed sleeping and buffet cars and kitchen cars for the LNER's long journeys from London to Scotland.
