Containers being loaded onto the 'Sea Freightliner I' at Parkeston Quay, Essex, 26 September 1971. This ferry took cargo from Harwich to Belgium and Holland. Containers had always been used by the railways. By the 1920s they were being used to transport goods from door to door without the goods having to be unpacked.
