Description
An A4 class 4-6-2 locomotive number 4498 "Sir Nigel Gresley", 1937. Sir Nigel Gresley, the designer of the locomotive, is standing next to it. This streamlined locomotive was built at Doncaster works. It was used to haul passenger trains between London and Scotland. These locomotives travelled at very fast speeds. Another A4 locomotive, number 4468 "Mallard", holds the record for the fastest speed by a steam locomotive, of 126 miles per hour.
