Graphic representation of Eric, the UK's first robot built in 1928. Artwork exclusively designed for the Robots Exhibition, 2017 at the Science Museum London. Eric was the first modern British robot. He was built by Captain William H. Richards to open the annual Society of Model Engineers exhibition in London, standing in for the human Duke of York. He used 13 electric motors and a closely guarded control system to stand, bow, give a four minute speech and answer up to 60 questions. Eric's London performance was the start of a long touring career meeting excited audiences around the UK and USA. A Kickstarter campaign in 2016 enabled the Science Museum to create the replica now on display.
