Description
A photograph of American troops marching past St Paul's Cathedral, London, taken by Calcraft for the Daily Herald newspaper on 2 September, 1942. The soldiers are on their way to the Guildhall to have lunch with the Lord Mayor. America entered World War Two in December 1941, following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour. The first American troops arrived in Britain in January 1942. This photograph has been selected from the Daily Herald Archive, a collection of over three million photographs. The archive holds work of international, national and local importance by both staff and agency photographers.
