Description
A photograph of a woman sitting under an electric hair-curler at the Hair and Beauty Fair in Olympia, London, taken by Edward Malindine for the Daily Herald newspaper on 20, 1938. After World War One, short hair for women was in fashion. Many hairstyles, such as the permanent wave, required heating, setting or curling - and the technology to achieve the desired results. The first electric hairdryer was invented by Alexandre Godefoy in 1890. This photograph has been selected from the Daily Herald Archive, a collection of over three million photographs. The archive holds work of international, national and local importance by both staff and agency photographers.
