A photograph of four circus elephants drinking from a bucket as a group of children watch, taken by Sayers for the Daily Herald newspaper on 11 July, 1938. The elephants had arrived in London and were travelling from the docks to the Coliseum Theatre in St Martin's Lane, to perform in a Summer Circus. The elephants have stopped for a drink from a rather small bucket and have attracted a crowd of people eager to watch the unusual sight. This photograph has been selected from the Daily Herald Archive, a collection of over three million photographs. The archive holds work of international, national and local importance by both staff and agency photographers.
