A photograph of children receiving free bread in Disley, Cheshire, taken by White for the Daily Herald newspaper on Christmas Day, 1935. Each Christmas, every Disley villager was entitled to a free loaf of bread. Many years previously, a bread fund had been established from the income on rented land. This photograph has been selected from the Daily Herald Archive, a collection of over three million photographs. The archive holds work of international, national and local importance by both staff and agency photographers.
