Description
A photograph of four coal miners from Hickleton Main Colliery, South Yorkshire, toasting themselves with cups of tea, taken by an unknown photographer for the Daily Herald newspaper in 1960. The men were from a group of seven miners who had been trapped for eighteen hours half a mile below ground by a rock fall. Fifty rescuers had been called in to save the men. This photograph has been selected from the Daily Herald Archive, a collection of over three million photographs. The archive holds work of international, national and local importance by both staff and agency photographers.
