Description
London & North Western Railway locomotives at Camden engine shed, about 1900. The line ran up an incline through Camden and in the early days of the railway the carriages were pulled up by winding engines and cable. Locomotives were attached to the train at the top to take the trains onward. By the early 20th century locomotives were powerful enough to haul trains up the gradient.
