A photograph outside the Trocadero Theatre, London, taken by Tomlin for the Daily Herald newspaper in 1934. Theatre posters advertise the appearance on stage that night of Gracie Fields (1898-1979) - due to present the winner's cheque of £10,000 in the Daily Herald 'Radio Stars' contest. Rochdale-born Fields, real name Grace Stansfield, was the most succesful female British performer of the 1930s and 1940s. This photograph has been selected from the Daily Herald Archive, a collection of over three million photographs. The archive holds work of international, national and local importance by both staff and agency photographers.
