Description
The locomotive represented by this model (scale 1:8) was designed by George Stephenson (1781-1848) and built by Robert Stephenson & Co in 1825. In September 1825, it hauled the special train which opened the Stockton and Darlington Railway, the world's first public steam railway. After the opening she was used to haul freight wagons and a passenger carriage called the 'Experiment'. This model was made to commemorate the railway's fiftieth anniversary in 1875.
