Description
Hand-coloured lithograph by T Faulkner, architect of the Gas Light & Coke Company buildings in Westminster showing the principal entrance to the gas works. In 1812 the Gas Light & Coke Company were granted a charter by parliament to become the first gas company in the world. On 31 December 1813 the Gas Light & Coke Company illuminated the nearby Westminster Bridge. From a collection of prints and books documenting the early history of the gas industry amased by Sir Arthur Elton.
