Map drawn and engraved by Ambroise Tardieu, showing the places visited by the scientific expedition led by French navigator Jules-Sebastien-Cesar Dumont d'Urville (1790-1842). Dumont D'Urville wrote an account of the journey in 'Voyage de decouvertes de l'Astrolabe: execute par ordre du roi, pendant les annees 1826-1827-1828-1829' published in Paris in 1833. The book, (in English, 'Voyage of discovery of the Astrolabe: undertaken by order of the king, during the years 1826-1829'), is an account of a scientific expedition to the Pacific.
