Colour lithograph showing a caricature of Queen Victoria as 'The Queen of May'. Victoria is depicted seated on a throne and surrounded by garlands, with a beef eater stood in front of her. Behind the Queen is the exterior of the Crystal Palace, the home to the Great Exhibition of 1851. In front of the Crystal Palace people, including Prince Albert, Victoria's consort, are dancing. Albert, who conceived the idea of the Great Exhibition, is depicted wearing a Prusian style helmet. to the right of him a man in armour is seen driving a locomotive disguised as a horse over a figure labelled as 'war'.
