Description
'Un Animal dans la Lune'. Print showing a man observing the Moon with a long telescope suspended from a wooden pillar by a cord. Titled 'Un animal dans la lune', the stipple engraving is from the fables of Jean De La Fontaine written by the French poet in the late seventeenth century. This print is taken from an edition of his work published between 1755 and 1759. The caption on the plate translates as 'The animal in the Moon' and is number 142 in Fontaine's tales.
