Description
Engraving in a gilt-edged roundel, showing factory workers and steam-powered machinery at Spill's textile waterproofing works. Established in 1844, George Spill & Co were manufacturers of India rubber and oiled waterproof clothing, including groundsheets for soldiers. Rubber was spread onto cloth to make the fabric waterproof.
