Description
Albumen photograph by Lawton & Scowen, one of a series depicting the construction of various railway bridges in Ceylon (Sri Lanka) between 1878 and 1883. This view shows a viaduct built acros a broad river. The British began the building of Ceylon's railway system in 1864, with the two main cities, Colombo and Kandy, connected in 1867.
