Description
Converted from the old parachute school at RIngway where 600,000 troops trained before being airlifted to liberate Europe, Manchester Airport developed dramatically during the early 1960s when a modern terminal building with all the facilities taken for granted now such as air traffic control, was constructed. In this series of photographs the prescient Manchester Corporation show off their achievements at the beginning of Britain's masive air travel expansion. Photograph by Walter Nurnberg who transformed industrial photography after WWII using film studio lighting techniques.
